Free Dance workshops all week long at the Ed Gartland Youth Centre in the afternoons drew students from several local schools. Members of the UNLV Dance Troupe danced, taught and discussed types of dance with many smiling young aspiring dancers. Hip/hop was enormously popular and Bria Sison, Alex Lum and Stuart Speckner WOWED the
kids with their moves and also saw some local 'break' that was truly inspiring. Each class ended with an
interactive dance created by the UNLV dancers and their enthusiastic audiences.
Clement Howell
High School graciously opened their doors on Wednesday (May 13) to the Las Vegas Dancers
and over 150 students from their school, Oseta Jolly and Enid Capron. An exciting revue and dance workshop
was performed by UNLV dancers and guests from the U. of Wyoming. The Dancers featured three major types of dance
by pulling sections of their repertoire to include ballet, modern and jazz/hip hop. Ballet solo by special guest
Jennifer Deckert, a modern dance called "The Rapture" featuring 7 UNLV dancers, a modern/jazz trio "a reminiscence"
by Bria Sison, a beautiful ballet/modern called "Shifting Perspectives" by Stuart Speckner and "Going" by Kelsey Morozow.
Afterwards, Louis Kavouras, chair of the UNLV Dance Department choreographed a short dance with the Dancers
and almost the entire audience!
Wednesday Morning Ashcroft was the site of an amazing dance workshop! The entire school, students and teachers
were out to see the UNLV Dancers perform and teach various methods of Dance. The kids were thrilled and very inquisitive,
asking many questions and taking part in a short dance with the University students.
