Pirates ingeniously wove two genres – the swashbuckling pirate tales and the British Christmas pantomime, with its slapstick humor, hilarious pratfalls, in-jokes, song, dance, cross-dressing, and all around great fun. Along with some of the best voices in TCI, and recognizable personalities, this delicious combination made Pirates a national gem.
In September of 2007, TCFAF and Hon. Carlton Mills were able to grant a special wish to the Oseta Jolly Primary School; and after a year of dance instruction by Karina Felix, 20 talented students from Oseta Jolly participated in Miss Karina Dance Celebration in June 2008.
In April 2008, TCFAF brought in DANCESCAPES from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) and the University of Wyoming. DANCESCAPES reached out to over 1,250 children in 14 local schools, giving 7 lecture demonstrations, 5 Master classes, and 3 inspired shows.
In May 2008, TCFAF presented its first Turks and Caicos Arts & Crafts Cultural Festival. This long awaited event forged a very important tie between TCFAF and the local artists.
Finally, TCFAF sponsored ballerinas between the ages of 10 and 17 studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet’s (PAB) Summer Intensive. Our local ballerinas made a magnificent impression in the U.S., being the best of ambassadors and having the experience of a lifetime!
